Sitting in the library, as it is my only means of computer access. Well, internet access. I've begun writing again, which is always nice. Terran's currently being hunted down by Nazis. What a thrill.

So, onto my rant for the day. Today's subject: James Patterson's MAXIMUM RIDE.


I'm considering checking it out from the desk, though I've already read the first few chapters of one of the books (I forget which it was exactly. Second, maybe?). I wasn't impressed in the least bit. Once again, perhaps not a bad story line, yet a terrible watering-down of writing. The target-audience is so painfully obvious, I almost couldn't get myself to turn the page. And you know what's funny? I did only read six, maybe seven pages and yet I already went through three chapters. =l Three fricken chapters. Now, I know there's some novels in which brief chapters are okay; it ties into the story/plot. HOWEVER. My mind was engulfed with the thought of juvenile quality writing. CLEARLY the short chapters are a way to, "YAY! Make the reader feel GOOD about themselves!".

"I've only been reading for ten minutes, and--OH MY GAWD--I'm on the fourth chapter!"

It pisses me off. I was describing my 'Terran' series plot to a friend of mine (before I'd heard of MAXIMUM RIDE) and do you know what she said? DO YOU FRICKEN KNOW WHAT SHE SAID? "Oh my god, that sounds like a book I'm reading now!"

"...Oh, really?" I said, expecting a result none-too-pleasing. "What book?"


Guess what her response was? C'mon, guess.
